February Faves

Today is the last day of February 2013 so I will share my favorite photos collage style and my February book list.

Unlike January where I had to break the tradition of not taking photos (apparently I’ve been uninspired in January several years now), February was action packed.  My photo file has 300 images!  Two family gatherings helped but I got out more and I also used my smartphone camera more.  I’m missing a few family members in the collage, most notibly Ray.  Sometimes that happens.  He’s been sick and just didn’t want to pose for me.

More B&W Photographs

Well it’s been a rainy, windy day here in eastern Virginia.  If I didn’t know any better, I would think a hurricane was coming!  Every afternoon I walk around the interior of my apartment complex making a few laps around the courtyard.  Today I decided to snap away as I walked.   Here are 8 shots out of 80.  Yes, I took 80 while trying different settings and that’s how I learn.  Trial and error.  There are more keepers and maybe I will share those later.

February Snail Mail

Brenda, Cheryl and Jeanette (sister, bff and m-i-l) are members of my snail mail club.  I make a card for each of them monthly and they do the same for me.

I will do a post of some of the cards they have sent me at a later time.

February’s birthstone is amethyst – I love purple so that was one of my inspirations for these cards.  Cheryl is getting back into crafts and was talking about embossing so that inspired me also.  For those that don’t know there are two types of embossing – dry and heat.  I used embossing plates put thru my Sizzix machine to create the texture for these cards so that would be dry embossing.

This first card I used vellum for the background and embossed with an alphabet plate – it came out looking and feeling so cool!  I decided to color in the letters HI since they were next to each other.

This second card I used the negative space  from a tag that I had punched out and placed on the diagonally lined textured background paper.  Shiny, glittery stickers and some cute buttons rounded out the design.

This third card I used a dash background with another piece of paper that had a shape punched out of it already – just put a coordinated paper behind it, rubbed a stitch on the side and some ribbon – voila’ a card.

{My inspiration for March will be flowers and chalks}

Black & White vs. Color

Yesterday was rainy and dreary so I thought it was perfect for black and white photography!  Not that the weather matters but it suited my mood, lol.  I can switch color shots to black and white in my photo editor but I changed the setting on the camera to Monochrome and I love the moody feel to the photos.

So I captured the rain clinging to the bottom of the railing on our patio:

Then I decided to try these 3 vases – here they are in b & w and color:

Then Buddy was just lying on the couch looking as cute as usual:

I think I will post more pics in b & w this week.  Stay tuned!

Fitness Friday

Well ,I waited until the 6 week mark had passed from injuring my back before starting my exercise program.  I’m proud to share that I’ve been working out with Jane Fonda taking turns working on upper and lower body.  I’ve been sore so I know it’s working:-)

I’ve also been walking every day and using the “I Do Move” app to count my steps and time.
