From Fear to Fabulous

I don’t know if you can understand me.  Most of my life (since I was a teenager) I have had issues.  It started when I attended 8th grade and I had to go to Junior High School, a bigger school that merged 5 elementary schools together.  That’s when my phobias kicked in.  I don’t think I was afraid before the first day of school but having to ride a different bus with 8th thru 12th graders was intimidating, then I didn’t know where to go to get to my classes and suddenly there were so many strangers.

Once I graduated high school, I had to find a real job.  It wasn’t pretty.  I had no clue what to do.  That sounds so lame but I was stuck and didn’t know what to do to make it in the real world.  My sister Judy let me watch her son over the summer and then she found me a volunteer job.  That gave me some skills and confidence to get a real job.  It’s been a rough and rocky road ever since those days.

Fast forward to me now, here I am in my late 40’s and I have felt the mindless terror recently that I call “gotta find a job.”  My husband gingerly suggested that I call a local temp service last week.  I say gingerly because during this process he knows I can burst out crying without warning.  I called them the next day to make my husband happy – not me – but him.  I even went to the appointment and filled out lots of paperwork.  I met with their job finder who was very friendly and receptive to how nervous I was.

Well, she called and sent me to an interview on Thursday.  I worked my first day yesterday.  Good thing they started me on Friday because I would have worried myself sick all weekend over the new job nerves!

I just want to share pictures of my first day.  It was a very pleasant first day.  I mean they have a cat that lives there 24-7 and the bookkeeper brings her toy poodle into the office every day.  I think the pets helped calm my nerves tremendously.

My name is Sherri and I am an Introvert.  I survived another 1st day on the job and the job hunting process.  I also have an over the top fear of the unknown (FUNK as read on The Change Blog).  I also found out that I have Ergophobia – thanks to Google Search.

But understanding more about introversion and ergophobia helped me a lot this time.  Knowing I’m not the only one in this big universe that deals with these issues helps.  I think there’s hope for me yet!  Many thanks to my loved ones for holding my hand (literally and phone-ally)

I got a job placement from the temp service and I start today!  I’m nervous because it’s been a year since I worked a regular job.  One thing is for sure – I will enjoy making money so that I can spend it.  Here are a few pictures I took the other day…I’m not sure if I will be able to post daily but I will do the best that I can.  Enjoy!

I went out yesterday for the first time in a long while (not counting grocery store runs).  It was a perfect day with blue skies and fluffy white clouds and the temperature wasn’t bad.  I checked out The Party Store and Tuesday Morning.  I was drooling over a cool camera bag at Tuesday Morning but it was a one shoulder strap backpack which doesn’t really work for me.

Then I went into Best Buy (danger, danger Will Robinson, lol).  I had some reward certificates totaling $10.00 off.  Imagine my surprise when I found a camera bag there that wasn’t black!  It’s very stylish and it was reasonably priced – SCORE!  I also bought a UV filter for my 50 mm lens and a remote shutter tripper gizmo-thingee that I can use to hopefully capture Buddy doing his wild Ninja flips when he’s playing.

Today I am interviewing for an office job.  It sounds promising because a cat and a toy poodle stay in the office.  Sweet!

A little bit country, a little bit downtown

Today is a day for introspection.  It’s cold, windy and gray outside.  I sit here with the heat on and stare out at the trees swaying and a few brave birds struggling to fly by or land in those wildly moving tree branches.

I’m sitting here with my husband and we are listening to Celtic music.  The soothing strings of the violin help me feel peaceful and content.  I’m sharing some favorite shots from the past since I haven’t felt well for the past few days to get out and make photographs.

Monday Musings

It’s raining (and snowing)  here today.  But I walked around the community on Saturday with my Canon to capture these little beauties before they are changed out to something more seasonal.  I admire pansies with their cheerful colors and hearty ability to withstand the cold temperatures.  They have brightened my days considerably whenever I was walking along with my head down.  Deep in thought perhaps:)
