Celebrating America’s Favorite Pastime

I love baseball!  We spend several evenings a week watching the Washington Nationals play on TV.  Last night we went to Norfolk to watch the Triple A team the Norfolk Tides play the Syracuse Chiefs.

 The Norfolk Tides team is owned by the Baltimore Oriels and the Syracuse Chiefs is owned by the Washington Nationals.  We rooted for the home team and they won!  It was 57 degrees with 30 mph winds blowing.  I can’t tell you what the windchill temp was but it was SO COLD!  Glad we bundled up and they gave out blankets at the gates.

Ray surprised me with home plate seats.  It was challenging to photograph the action with the netting in front of me.  Sometimes the netting faded away but other times it was more noticeable.  I’m proud that I shot the entire game in Tv (shutter) mode.  I got to make use of my new zoom lens and then switched it to my kit lens at the end of the night to capture the entire ball field.

There was excitement when this helicopter landed.  The ceremonial pitch was thrown by the Wavy 10 weatherman.  We cheered him for the free blankets they gave at the gate!

Here come the umps – can you believe they threw a Norfolk Tides player out of the game!  I didn’t expect such drama at a Triple A game! {smile}

The Syracuse pitcher had a nice wind-up but the Tides were all over his pitches with  5 runs in the first inning, including a home run!

The Chiefs tried to comeback but the final score was 2-8.  Tides won!

In between innings, they had entertainments and this one was the running of the wine bottles race.  They made sure to have a “drink responsibly” message on the back of the bottles.

  1. Terrific shots! I too am a baseball fan, BUT unless there is interleague I don’t get to see my Mets too often 🙂 But we’ll have to compare notes when the nationals play the Mets! 🙂
    How sweet that Ray got you great seats!!!!

    • Aw, it’s too bad you don’t get to see your Mets more! I hope we can swing a Nats game this summer. The boys of summer always make me smile.

      Yes the seats were great! Next time no net in front of me. The auto focus was going nuts:-)
